London's Best Budget Boutique Hotels

Gone are the days when you would settle for clean sheets and a decent English breakfast when staying at a hotel in London. Yes, the hotel scene has come a long way, bringing a bit of luxury and the essential hip factor, at a much more affordable price. As you think of industrial chic, Vinyasa yoga classes, flat whites, personal Sound cloud playlists and Brompton bike hire, here’s our pick of the best budget boutique hotels in London:

Ace Hotel

ACE Hotel has redefined the hotel experience with its hipster interiors, hub of social gatherings and effortless charm that won’t mean a heavy price tag. The hotel is mid-priced accommodation at its best and it’s not surprising that its name has now gathered a huge following, worthy of a few more hotel bases in Panama City, LA and New York (to name but a few).

Shoreditch House

This is the kind of hotel that will make you want to stay FOREVER; boasting a rooftop pool, uber cool and cosy lounges, a bowling alley, Cowshed spa and to die for cocktails...Need we say more? It’s also based right at the heart of London’s hippest area: Shoreditch, making it a short walk to many trendy bars and endless eateries. (The trick is to book a room last minute and grab a bargain).

Town Hall Hotel

Previously a working Town Hall (in the early 1900s), this hotel’s mix of Edwardian grandeur and modern features makes it special, with rooms described on their website as:

"feeling more like pied a tierre in the city than a traditional hotel room".

If you’re not able to stay a night then the hotel’s lunch offers are a great opportunity to hang out and soak up the very unique surroundings.

The London Edition

This hotel oozes character from the moment you walk through its doors, the Sunday Times newspaper describing it as ‘a unique brand of cool’. It is a bit pricier than the above options but still reasonable by boutique hotel standards, especially if you’re able to take advantage of its live music and extra special cocktails in the hotel’s ‘Punch Room’.

Russell’s of Clapton

More of an upmarket Bed & Breakfast than a hotel, everything about this place speaks of homely, hipster chic and good value for your money. The mixture of old and new makes it a treat to stay in, and did we mention it’s freshly brewed coffee and locally sourced produce for breakfast? Mmmmmm…. Has us dreaming of a stay already.
